Dedicated local work vs load boards: which suits your truck?

Dedicated local work vs load boards: which suits your truck?

Pick every load yourself, or book days in one market and have loads brokered to you? How the two compare for owner operators and small fleets.

A load board lets you pick every load, but you always have to find the next one yourself. Dedicated lanes usually means running the same routes over and over. With dedicated local work like ours, you book days in one market, and we broker the loads to you.

Dedicated local work vs load boards, side by side

  • Finding work. On a board, you search and book each load. With us, you book days and we broker the loads to you.
  • Where you run. On a board, wherever the next load goes. With us, one local market.
  • Who you deal with. On a board, lots of different brokers, and each one needs checking. With us, one broker, and you talk to the people who broker the freight.
  • Equipment. On a board, you match your equipment to each posting. With us, power only, dry van and flatbed work is available, and carriers interchange with our 53' dry vans.

Running off a load board

Brokers and shippers post freight on the board and you search it. You take the loads you like, settle the rate and payment terms by phone or message, then book. When that load delivers, you start looking again.

Rates move too. FreightWaves' load board guide warns that a popular lane draws a lot of trucks, and that can lower rates fast.

Every new broker is one more to check. FMCSA's fraud guidance says to confirm a broker's phone number on SAFER. If it doesn't match the one you were given, call the number SAFER shows.

How booking days works with us

We broker freight to motor carriers. Carriers book days with us, and we broker loads to them.

Our phone is (303) 276-2378, the number on our FMCSA record. Hours: Mon-Fri, 8 AM-5 PM Mountain.

The next week's schedule opens Thursday at 5 PM Mountain. Book the days you want to run. A booked day is a minimum of 10 hours.

Once you're set up, you run the loads we broker to you. After each load, you upload the signed BOL in your app or admin portal, and track your pay in your admin portal. If we pay you directly, you're paid the next business day once you approve your load for invoicing. Our booking to delivery guide walks through an example week.

Who each one suits

Dedicated local work fits owner operators and small fleets who want their trucks working one market instead of searching for loads. You know which days your trucks run.

A board fits better if you want long runs.

Our site lists 12 markets. See them on our dedicated freight page. It's a list, not a live count of open work. Don't see your market? Apply anyway.

How to start

  1. Apply on our site. It takes about two minutes.
  2. Carrier setup lists what to have ready and each step to your first load.
